She lived many centuries after Bappa Rawal, but she inherited the incredible cultural and artistic genes of her father, Maharana Kumbha (who was himself a massive patron of art, music, and architecture). 🎵 Princess Ramabai: The "Vagishwari" of Mewar Ramabai was not an ordinary princess; she was a highly celebrated scholar and a master musician. • The Title of Vagishwari: Due to her extraordinary command over music and literature, she was officially given the title of "Vagishwari" (a name for Goddess Saraswati) in historical Mewar texts. • Her Return to Mewar: She was married to King Mandalik III of Junagadh (Gujarat). However, when the Sultan of Gujarat, Mahmud Begada, defeated Junagadh and forced her husband to convert to Islam, Ramabai chose to leave Girnar and return to her homeland of Mewar. 🛕 History of the Ramanath Temple & Ramakund Upon her return, her family granted her the estate of Zawar, which was a highly prosperous and booming silver and zinc mining hub at the time. She chose to spend the rest of her life right there in Zawar, dedicating her wealth and time to spirituality and architecture. • The Inscription: A beautifully detailed Sanskrit inscription found on a black stone slab at the temple site confirms that this entire complex—historically referred to as the Ramaswami Temple (dedicated to Lord Vishnu)—was commissioned by Princess Ramabai herself. • The Architecture: Built around 1497 CE, the temple is a classic example of medieval Mewari architecture, featuring intricate carvings that match the grandeur of her father's famous construction projects. • The Ramakund: Right alongside the temple, she constructed a massive, beautifully engineered stepped water tank known as Ramakund (or Ramakunda). It wasn't just a religious tank but a crucial water resource for the township that thrived around the Zawar mines.
