Baby steps together and taking things as slow as you can is recommended for best results when trying to achieve sobriety. It can take many attempts. Your not a failure and relapse is quite common. The family gives up. We give up. It's easy to loose hope in such a hard game! Don't worry you don't suck at it...it's super freaking hard! Hang in there!
If your looking to still keep trying and win at recovery than don't give up! Keep trying! The addicted person needs a circle around them. A community. The rooms! Many resources, therapy and continued support. It takes time. It's often suggested to stay in the middle of the herd. No shame in that.
Having family on board helps a person more then not. This episodes talks about the different stages of recovery from substance abuse. From detox, to treatment centers to recovery centers and 3rd and 4th stage sober living. This takes a life time. For the first 5 years you are locked in. You are taking baby steps, to crawling, to maybe learning to walk again as a new sober person. Your a new you. People will need their time to adjust too.
I never knew who I was when I was drinking and using. I knew how to feel good and get thing's done! Sobriety gave me sooo much more and Thank God I stuck to it. Even in year 5, approaching year 6; a huge light bulb went off again. Uncovering another layer to myself and becoming more independent. I followed the program. Gave up my drinking relationships along the way and formed new more meaningful ones. I was meant to go through what I did to be chosen to have this sober life. If I wasn't brought to my knee's I would of slumped it off. I would of slumped off a spiritual journey of self-discovery and just been left with mediocre. I am grateful I don't need booze today for anything or codependent attachments that just string me down and keep me stuff in unhealthy relationships. @NOVEILRECOVERY
