A genuine invoice. An expected delivery. A payment approved by two people. Yet the money goes to the wrong account.
This fictional scenario follows Maya and Daniel at Bracken Wholesale as an attacker uses shared-mailbox access, a hidden email rule and a lookalike supplier address to manipulate a legitimate payment. The original route into the compromised account is unknown.
Explore why matching an invoice total is not enough, how supplier messages can arrive without appearing in the working inbox, and why bank-detail changes need independent verification through an established contact route.
The video also examines practical response and prevention measures: urgent bank contact, payment holds, account containment, evidence preservation, mailbox-access reviews, strong multifactor authentication and tested alerts. These controls are illustrative recommendations, not additional events established by an investigation. Payment recovery is not guaranteed.
Bracken Wholesale and its employees are invented.
What you will learn
Look beyond the visible inbox when investigating payment diversion.
Verify bank-detail changes separately from invoice approval and email access.
Connect the technical issue to the people, decisions and everyday work affected by it.

This episode is for business owners, managers, staff and IT colleagues who want to discuss cybersecurity in plain English. Watch together, choose one relevant process, and agree who will check it, what evidence they will collect and when you will review the result.
