Eileen Farrell sings "Libera me" - Verdi Requiem (Spoleto, 1959)

From the 1959 Spoleto Festival, here is Eileen Farrell performing the "Libera me" from Verdi's Requiem. Thomas Schippers is the conductor. And here's a link to one of my Eileen Farrell playlists:    • Eileen Farrell - opera plus!   At the Spoleto Festival in 1959, Eileen Farrell gave a recital in addition to performing the Verdi Requiem. While she was there, Louis Armstrong was booked for a concert at the festival but fell ill with pneumonia. So Farrell filled in, singing ballads and blues. Coming so soon after her two acclaimed classical evenings, it was a sensation. Look magazine said that Farrell's voice "is perhaps as close to a flawless soprano instrument as exists in the world today." I might of said "ever".
