We spent five days road-tripping through Iceland, and the easiest way to describe it is just pure, non-stop momentum. You go from soaking in the warmth of the Blue Lagoon straight into the wind to catch the classic Golden Circle spots, and the scale of everything just keeps getting bigger.By the time you’re watching massive icebergs drift out to sea at the glacier lagoon, hiking trails that overlook towering waterfalls, or strapping on crampons to walk directly onto a glacier, you realize how much ground you’re actually covering. It was five days of incredible views, epic hikes, and constantly chasing the next spot. Here is exactly how the route turned out.
Our Exact Route & Stays:
The Golden Circle & Surroundings: Exploring the historic Thingvellir National Park, the explosive Geysir geothermal area, and the massive Gullfoss Falls. We also made stops at the colorful Kerið Crater and stopped for a fresh meal at the Farmers Bistro.
The South Coast Highlights: Standing behind the cascading waters at Seljalandsfoss, catching the mist at Skógafoss, and walking the moody, black sands of Reynisfjara Beach and the cliffs of Dyrhólaey Lighthouse.
Glacier Country & Hikes: Taking on an epic glacier hike at Falljökull Glacier, chasing the basalt columns at Svartifoss, and hiking the striking landscapes of Múlagljúfur Canyon.
The Lagoons & Ice: Watching massive ice blocks at Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, walking along Diamond Beach, and completely winding down at the Blue Lagoon.
Where We Stayed: Cozying up at Þingholt by Center Hotels in the heart of Reykjavík and the uniquely styled Potato Storage apartments near Skaftafell.
