FULL COMPILATION: Soil microbiology, Brix testing and regenerative agriculture. Conventional vs regenerative crop, root comparisons and a seed inoculation pot trial from our farm in northern NSW, Australia. Compost extractor, vermicast extract & biologicals we use: https://forms.clickup.com/36826126/f/... What role does soil biology play in crop growth, nutrient availability and root development? This extended cut compilation combines four Danthonia Farm videos to find out. We compare a conventionally grown oat crop (urea and starter fertilizer, no biology) with a biologically inoculated multi-species forage crop using Brix readings, root digs, root measurements and a pot trial. Filmed over about six months, from deep drought to the first real rain. The opening section is from our very first video, so the audio is rough. Captions are on. Sorry about that! WHAT YOU'LL SEE AND LEARN What Brix is and how to take a Brix reading with a refractometer Brix of 24.5 on the inoculated multi-species crop vs 8.2 on the conventional urea-fertilized oat crop How biological seed treatment and liquid inject work at sowing How mycorrhizal fungi and bacteria extend a plant's reach to nutrients Roots compared: rhizosheath vs none, about 180 mm vs 280 to 300 mm root depth Pot trial, 38 plants per sample: 15 g vs 23 g total biomass (roots, leaves and stems) Root exudates, nutrient cycling and soil aggregates Forage quality, grazing and livestock weight gain Why salt-based fertilizer (fertiliser) and NPK down the tube can shut down the soil microbiome A note on the results: the Brix and root comparisons are paddock observations from a dry season on our farm, not replicated trials. The pot trial used the same soil and water with no added fertility. Your results will differ.
