Susmitha & Gowtham's Wedding
So day 1 of our wedding involved the Haldi Ceremony/ Pellikoduku function - this happened at Gowtham's house in Tirupati, India while my ceremony took place in Vijayawada, India.
So, what does this ceremony involve? What is haldi? What is groom ceremony (aka pellikoduku function)?
Starting off with Haldi, Haldi is turmeric. So, the first thing that comes to our mind for the Haldi ceremony theme would be the colour yellow or the smell of turmeric etc. Haldi or turmeric cleanses and purifies the body, with its unique and spiritual fragrance and haldi ceremony is followed in many cultures and across nationalities and it is put on the bride and groom just before the wedding. Post the haldi ceremony, is usually the Pellikoduku/ Pellikuturu function (which are the bride and groom ceremony).
Wait a minute, it is not necessarily a monotonous ritual and you can have the fun part too! There are extended haldi rituals that resemble mini holi celebrations with splashing of colours and water over the guests while conducting games. Some of the best action photos are taken during the haldi ceremony.
