The Day I Met the Holy Spirit | HE CAME After publicly giving my life to Jesus, I knew that something had changed in me. My faith was no longer simply the faith I had inherited from my parents—it had become my own. But I was still very young in my walk with God, and I did not yet understand the Holy Spirit. A few days later, I became seriously ill again and was admitted to hospital. While I was there, I prayed and asked God to allow me to leave in time to attend a special Holy Spirit meeting at the gospel crusade I had been attending. God answered that prayer. After I was discharged, I spent the day fasting, praying and searching the Bible for what Jesus had said about the Holy Spirit. I had no phone, no Google, no one teaching me what to do. I simply opened my Bible and began searching. I found John 16. I read Jesus' words about the Holy Spirit being the Comforter, the Spirit of Truth, the One who would guide and reveal what was to come. And I began talking to Him. Then, as I prayed and worshipped in my home, something happened that I had never experienced before. He came. This is the story of the day I first experienced the baptism of the Holy Spirit and began speaking in tongues—before anyone laid hands on me, before the Holy Spirit meeting even began. This was not the end of my journey with God. It was the beginning of a completely new one. My faith was no longer borrowed. It had become my own.
