Was Raavan Really a Demon? What the Oldest Text Says

Every Dussehra, India burns a ten-headed "demon". But in Maharishi Valmiki's Ramayana, the people who knew Raavan best describe someone very different: Lord Mighty Hanuman, who stood bound in his court; Mandodari, the queen who loved him; and Lord Rama himself. "Was Raavan Really a Demon?" reads the original verses, separates what Valmiki wrote from the stories added much later, and gives an honest answer.
