Federal government launches new venture capital funding plan – October 22, 2026

In Toronto, Industry Minister Mélanie Joly announces the federal government is opening bids for its new $1.75-billion venture capital funding plan. She is joined by entrepreneur Raquel Urtasun and local MP Danielle Martin. Speaking with reporters following the announcement, Minister Joly says she has given the American parent company of Stelco 15 days to reverse layoffs at its Hamilton plant before the government takes legal action against the company.
