Written by UMTerps.com Sarah Te-Biasu scored the game winner with one second remaining as No. 19 Maryland women's basketball closed out its regular season with a 93-90 win in overtime over No. 12 Ohio State at XFINITY Center on Sunday. The Terps improved to 23-6 overall and 13-5 in Big Ten play. This was Maryland's fifth-ranked win of the season and Brenda Frese's 99th as head coach at Maryland. This was Maryland's first overtime game at home since Feb. 24, 2008. The Terps are also locked into the No. 4 seed of the Big Ten Tournament with a double-bye. They will play on March 7 at approximately 2:30 p.m. With the game tied at 90 after a clutch bucket by Ohio State's Madison Greene with seven seconds to play, Te-Biasu raced up the court and put up a running 3-pointer that sunk through the bottom of the net. Te-Biasu tallied 15 points in the game. Kaylene Smikle led all scorers with 26 points. She scored 15 in the second half alone, hitting several clutch shots in the fourth quarter and overtime to keep Maryland alive. She added eight rebounds, two assists and two steals. Despite leaving the game and missing a good portion of the third quarter before returning, Shyanne Sellers scored 21 points, dished out eight assists and grabbed two steals. She knocked down 4-of-7 3-pointers, tying her season-high for makes. Allie Kubek tallied 17 as the fourth Terp to score in double figures. Christina Dalce added eight points, 11 rebounds and two steals. She scored all of her points in the third quarter. Maryland avenged its 74-66 loss to Ohio State (24-5, 13-5 Big Ten) on Jan. 23. The loss was its only on the road, as they're 10-1 away from XFINITY Center. Breaking Down The Action The Terps led 14-12 at the first media timeout. They led for the entire first 5:23, as Shyanne Sellers made her first two shots from 3-point land. Maryland held a 24-17 advantage at the end of the first quarter. Amari DeBerry came off the bench and scored six points on 3-of-3 shooting from the floor. Ohio State gained its first lead of the game at the 3:33 mark in the second. Elsa Lemmila scored a driving layup, and the Buckeyes led 33-32. Ohio State led 38-37 at the break. Sellers led the way with 14 points on 4-of-7 3-point shooting. Her four makes already tied her season-high. Sellers left the game early in the third due to injury but returned midway after Sarah Te-Biasu drilled a 3-pointer, and the Terps led 49-45. Maryland maintained its lead, 58-57, entering the final frame. Kaylene Smikle and Allie Kubek entered the double-digit scoring column, and Christina Dalce added eight points in the quarter alone. There were several lead changes in the final three minutes. The game was sent to overtime with the score knotted at 78 apiece. Te-Biasu scored the game-winner with a running 3-pointer with one second to go in overtime. Double-Figure Factors Kaylene Smikle scored 26 points, her 64th career double-figure game. This was her 26th game netting double-digit points as a Terp. She leads the Terps this season in double-figure scoring games. Shyanne Sellers scored 21 points, recording her 90th career game in double figures. She has scored double figures in 23 games this season. Allie Kubek scored 17 points and earned her 60th career game in double figures. She has scored in double figures 12 times this season. Sarah Te-Biasu scored 15 points, her 91st double-digit score in a game and 11th in double figures as a Terp. She leads the Terps in career double-digit scoring games. Overtime Is Our Time The phrase "Overtime is our time!" became one of the catchphrases from the Terps' 2006 NCAA title run. That 2005-06 team went 6-0 in overtime games and won the national title in extra time vs. Duke. Prior to their Jan. 2, 2022 overtime game at No. 8 Indiana, the Terps had the longest active streak in the country without an overtime game at 287 straight games. Their last overtime game was a 92-81 win over Wake Forest in the ACC Tournament Quarterfinals on March 8, 2013. Maryland is 16-4 in overtime games in Frese's 23 years. In the 2007-08 season, Frese was not on the sidelines for two of the Terps' overtime games. She missed a 97-86 double overtime loss at North Carolina on Jan. 26, 2008, and a 74-71 win at Virginia Tech on Feb. 4, 2008, due to her pregnancy with her sons.
