In this video (Part 2 of our OTP Verification System series in Node.js), we set up the core backend foundation!
We'll create project folders, connect our Node.js app to a MongoDB Atlas cluster, configure environment variables (.env), fix common MongoDB connection errors, and set up the services directory with `otpService.js` and Nodemailer for sending email OTPs.
Stay tuned for Part 3 where we complete the full OTP generation and email sending logic!
Database Connection (0:00 - 2:07): The creator sets up a db.js file within a config folder to handle the MongoDB connection using Mongoose.
Environment Configuration (0:35 - 3:56): The video demonstrates creating an .env file to securely store the MongoDB connection string, which is retrieved from a MongoDB Atlas cluster.
Troubleshooting (4:12 - 4:46): The creator provides a solution for common MongoDB connection errors by updating the DNS settings in app.js using dns.setServers(['8.8.8.8']).
Service Setup (4:55 - 5:45): A service directory is created for otpService.js, and Nodemailer is installed via npm to facilitate sending OTP emails in future steps.
Coming up later in the series:
The next installment will cover connecting the otpService.js logic with the application's API to enable the actual sending of OTPs to user email addresses (5:45 - 6:05).
