Nothing About the Mantis Shrimp Is Normal… Here's Why

It's smaller than your hand — but it can throw the fastest punch on Earth. The mantis shrimp punches with the acceleration of a bullet, fast enough to boil the water around it and shatter aquarium glass. Its eyes carry up to sixteen color receptors — you have three — and it's the only animal alive that can see circular polarized light. It has survived for 400 million years, outlasting the dinosaurs and every mass extinction since. This is the mantis shrimp. And nothing about it is normal. 🦐 If you could have one of its powers — the punch, or the eyes — which would you choose?
