Holy Ghost Encounter Although God reveals Himself in three Persons—God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit—they are one God, equal in nature, power, and glory. Yet we experience each Person in a unique way: • We encounter the love of the Father through the salvation found in Jesus Christ. • We receive Jesus by faith, and through Him we become children of God. • We depend on the Holy Spirit to keep us aligned with God’s will every day. The Work of the Holy Spirit The Holy Spirit is never passive. He is always at work, bringing God’s will to pass in our lives. Genesis 1:2 reminds us that before creation was formed, the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. Even when life seems chaotic or empty, the presence of the Holy Spirit means God is still working. The Holy Spirit has been commissioned by God to accomplish specific purposes in our lives. When God said, “Let there be light,” the Holy Spirit brought His word into reality. When we encounter the Holy Spirit, things begin to shift. There should always be evidence of a genuine encounter with the Holy Spirit. An encounter produces visible results. There is always a before and an after. What Is an Encounter? An encounter is not a blind date or an accident. It is a life-changing experience that permanently marks a person’s life. Before Jesus, our souls are without grace. Through Christ and the work of the Holy Spirit, our lives are transformed. From Victim to Victor Looking at Judges 11:1–3, Jephthah’s rejection began with circumstances beyond his control. Because of his mother’s background, he suffered rejection and was driven out of his father’s house. He was displaced from the covenant community of Israel, even though it was never his fault. This was his life before his encounter. In Judges 11:4–11, the very people who rejected him returned and asked him to lead them. The one they cast out became the one they needed. This is what an encounter with God does. An encounter changes your position, from victim to victor. In Judges 11:28–33, before the Holy Spirit came upon Jephthah, he was negotiating with his enemies. After the Spirit of the Lord came upon him, he walked in victory and defeated them. An encounter with the Holy Spirit changes the way you fight your battles. Set Apart Before You Were Celebrated In Jeremiah 1:4–5, before Jeremiah was formed in his mother’s womb, God knew him, set him apart, and appointed him. Every great person in the Bible was set apart long before they were celebrated. God separates people for His purpose before the world recognizes their greatness.
