I Only Had One Shot (Aerochrome)

Kodak Aerochrome is one of the rarest and most expensive films you can shoot in 2024. Originally developed for military reconnaissance, it renders vegetation in surreal pinks and reds through infrared light — and a single sheet of 4x5 will cost you around $25. I had ten sheets. I was saving one for the right shot. This is an 8-day large format road trip through Southern Arizona and New Mexico searching for the perfect Aerochrome frame — the right subject, the right foliage, the right light — all while shooting the rest of the trip on a full bag of 4x5 film stocks across abandoned buildings, ghost towns, desert highways and small town America. We cover the full realities of large format travel photography: blown exposures, dust storms, double exposures, a near-catastrophic camera accident, and the slow grind of finding a composition worth committing a sheet of irreplaceable film to. Alongside the Aerochrome hunt the trip produces work on Cinestill 400D, Kodak Portra 160, Fuji Provia 100F slide film, Ilford Delta, Ilford FP4, Kodak Tri-X Pan, and Arista 100 and 400 — all shot on the Intrepid 4x5 Black Edition with 90mm and 150mm lenses. If you've ever wanted to shoot large format, shoot Aerochrome, or just watch someone suffer beautifully across the American Southwest for eight days — this one's for you. 🎞️ Films: Kodak Aerochrome · Cinestill 400D · Kodak Portra 160 · Fuji Provia 100F · Ilford Delta · Ilford FP4 · Kodak Tri-X Pan · Arista 100 & 400 📷 Cameras: Intrepid 4x5 Black Edition · Ricoh GR III 🔭 Lenses: 90mm · 150mm 📍 Locations: Southern Arizona · New Mexico · Tombstone · Bisbee · Lowell · Miami AZ 📱IG: @calebknueven ☕️ Buy Me A Coffee: https://bmc.link/badflashes 🍆 Patreon : https://www.patreon.com/c/BadFlashes?... 📧 Email : Badflashes@gmail.com 🥳 Exclusive BTS patreon.com/BadFlashes 🖼️ Prints: https://calebknueven.darkroom.com 📷 Clever Supply Strap: https://cleversupply.co?ref=MKAZ3 - code badflashes for 10% off https://clever-supply-llc.kckb.me/c24... - Sidekick Pro 🎶 Music: https://www.trackclub.com/referral-la... 🎒Bag: Brevite: Jumper https://www.brevite.co/?rfsn=6938463.... 📙Chapters: 00:00 | Aerochrome 00:34 | Making our Way to AZ 06:05 | Day ii - First Day of the Hunt 14:47 | Day iii - In the Thick of it 19:59 | Day iv - The Day of Disaster 34:08 | Day v - Waking up in New Mexico 43:17 | Day vi - Doing Something Different 44:50 | Day vii - TODAY IS THE DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 50:51 | Day viii - Ascending #aerochrome #filmphotography #largeformatphotography #4x5 #ricohgriii
