The White Silence is an imaginary lost progressive rock album from 1974 by The Hollow Meridian.
Built around slow Hammond B3 organ, vintage electric guitars, melodic bass, restrained live drums, tape echo, warm analog saturation, and expansive psychedelic textures, the album explores the tragic mystery of the Franklin Expedition — the doomed 19th-century British voyage searching for the Northwest Passage through the frozen Arctic.
The record moves through frozen seas, abandoned camps, broken compasses, ships trapped beneath the ice, distant auroras, and the terrible silence of a wilderness that refuses to reveal its secrets.

The Story
In 1845, two British ships, HMS Erebus and HMS Terror, departed England under Sir John Franklin to search for a navigable passage through the Arctic. Somewhere among the frozen channels of the Canadian Arctic, the expedition vanished into history.
The Hollow Meridian's imagined 1974 album follows the voyage from hopeful departure to its haunting disappearance.
The journey begins beneath a northern sky, as two ships sail toward uncharted waters. Soon, the sun grows weaker, the sea freezes, and the horizon offers no promise of escape. The ships become prisoners of the ice, while months of darkness, hunger, and exhaustion slowly consume the crew's hopes.
Eventually, the surviving men abandon their trapped vessels and attempt to travel south across the frozen wilderness. Their footsteps disappear beneath drifting snow. Their signals fade. The Arctic absorbs the last traces of their passage.
The final movement offers no easy answers. It leaves the listener among the ice fields, where the ships, the men, and their unfinished journey remain suspended in a mystery that endured for generations.
The Arctic keeps its silence.
The Sound
Slow Hammond B3 organ, tremolo-soaked electric guitars, deep melodic bass, restrained live drums, tape echo, spring reverb, and warm analog saturation create the atmosphere of an endless Arctic winter.
Patient instrumental passages evoke distant winds, shifting auroras, and the disorientation of a world without familiar landmarks. Rooted in 1970s progressive and psychedelic rock, the music favors haunting melodies, spacious arrangements, and vintage analog character over modern cinematic production.
