Meeting with the police to discuss policing and the trans community.

So - I had a meeting with Western Australian police officials about policing and the transgender community. They have never been approached by us before, so I took the opportunity to build some bridges. They needed to understand us, who we are, what our needs and concerns are. It was a golden opportunity to talk about our misconceptions about one another, and how to work together for the safety of the transgender community. Short form: ain't no TERF "genital inspectors" going to be busting into womens toilets and causing us trouble here in Perth. The police are adamant that they have our back. They are encouraging us to report assaults, threats and abuse, and are very committed to a culture of respect. But now that this bridge has been made, they want to stay in closer touch with the community to keep hearing us. I think this was good work today. Good things have happened.
