Frozen 2 l Olaf Song Shot Progression l Michael Franceschi l ‪@3DAnimationInternships‬

Here is a progression of various stages of two shots I did on “When I Am Older”. I included the storyboards which were masterfully drawn by the insanely talented Dan Abraham @sharktooth72 , then included my blocking pass, final animation before effects and lighting, and the final version from the film. It was another fun Olaf animation puzzle to solve. The Directors wanted it to be playful, and I needed to have Olaf hit certain marks while being completely oblivious of his surroundings. So before I started, I researched old musical numbers where the actor interacted with their surroundings. I pulled some inspiration from Singing in the Rain. I also met with our in-house legend, Eric Goldberg before planning the shot. He suggested phrasing the rock and fire moments on the down beat of the song. I added a simple bouncing ball to indicate the timing of Bruni the salamander for the Effects dept to use for the timing of the fire. The lighting and effects departments are magicians that really helped bring this sequence to life from the atmospheric feel to the subtle movement in the leaves.
