The Tragic Death of Nirmal Purja

Nirmal Purja, known worldwide as "Nims" died on July 30th, 2026, after a massive avalanche swept through Broad Peak, Pakistan, killing 10 climbers including the legendary mountaineer. Nims Purja made history as the fastest person ever to climb all fourteen 8,000-meter peaks, completing "Project Possible" in just 6 months and 6 days, a record that had previously taken nearly 8 years. He also led the first-ever winter ascent of K2 with an all-Nepali climbing team, and later summited all fourteen peaks a second time without supplemental oxygen.
