The Supreme Court of India has strongly questioned the central authorities over the sweeping closure of Delhi Metro stations and transport curbs ahead of planned demonstrations in the national capital. Asserting that the entire city cannot be shut down under the guise of preventive measures, the bench emphasized that daily commuters, students, and senior citizens have a fundamental right to move freely. The apex court pointed out the practical difficulties faced by the public and directed authorities to minimize the closure of metro stations so that passenger movement is not paralyzed.
