Failing on a 4WD track. North Range Road and Hall Block Road.

I really bit off more than I could chew with this one. I thought it'd be an interesting track, but I didn't know that it would be a full-on technical 4WD track. There is a short track that links North Range Rd and Hall Block Rd through the Te Rere Hau Windfarm. It's not marked on the maps. The aerial photos show that there are big puddles. They don't show how gnarly it is. I hit trouble within about 800m. Unfortunately the camera doesn't quite capture the conditions, but it does capture my complete inability to handle these tracks. Looking back at the footage it's pretty obvious that I was far too timid. If I'd put it in 2nd and given it some welly then I would probably have made it through the whole track. And I'm kicking myself about the traction control issue. Such a basic error. I know that the bike starts up in road mode. I was too focused on the problem, and wasn't focused enough on the prep. All of this would have been instinctive for someone who's used to this type of challenge. Next time I will be a little more prepared... and there will be a next time.
