The Sun was a nightmare to construct. For one, it took me over a year to complete (fall 2025--fall 2026) and two, planning out all the notes, movements and instrumentation was total horror. I can safely say now that I have finally accomplished my goal of making this piece a reality. It is truly a dream come true! The Sun was inspired by my other piece from my piano solo suite: A Solar System Suite, Sun the Identity. What makes them so different from each other is the fact that instead of using all happy rhythms and melodies like in Sun, the Identity, The Sun uses an array of widely different emotions, and instead of being a fun little happy song, this one is about the Aztec sacrifice process and how they give deity and pay debt to their gods. (Specifically the Sun God in this matter). I would like to thank Brooke Pierson for helping me with all sorts of composing tips and advice. I don't know if I would've ever completed it had I not reached out. Thanks Brooke! :D After posting this video, I'm realizing now that if you hadn't noticed, percussion 1 and 2 are flipped (2 is above 1) and a fortepiano crescendo is missing for percussion 1. I don't wanna reupload this video a third time (first was an audio error) so I'm leaving it as is. If you wish to play The Sun, it will be posted for purchase on J.W. Pepper soon. For now, if you would like any specific parts to play along with the recording, please email me at ramaxof678@gmail.com and I will get you your part! MOVEMENTS: I. Flower War II. Yohualli III.
