1968-69 Television Season 50th Anniversary: Hawaii Five-O (final 1980 episode: Lord & Pat Crowley)

As we continue of tribute to CBS' Hawaii Five-O, we pay special tribute to actor Jack Lord. Along with producer Leonard Freeman, Lord is perhaps most responsible for the longevity and success of the series. He was not the first choice to play Steve McGarrett, but once signed on, he was all in, spending time in Hawaii with the production team, and we a critical leader for the series' later half of its run after the death of producer Leonard Freeman. The series set a record (at the time) for the longest running police drama on television when it aired its final episode on April 5, 1980. This video clip is from the very last episode of the series, entitled 'Woe To Woe Fat', where McGarrett goes undercover to crack the case of missing scientists. The series was also a ground breaker in that it cast many actors of Hawaiian/Asian decent, and created a television production crew in Hawaii that was top notch, and eventually helped get the Magnum P.I. series up and running and successful for many years in its Hawaii location setting. Jack Lord always played Steve McGarrett with high intensity, and his acting was always spot on the mark. In this final episode, he plays a man many years his senior, and plays it convincingly well.
