Named ‘Glorious’ in June 1978 after the Royal Navy aircraft carrier HMS Glorious, the locomotive enjoyed a long career on British Rail before being withdrawn in March 1994 following the Cornish Caper railtour. After withdrawal, 50033 entered the National Railway Museum collection and later spent time at the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, Swindon’s STEAM Museum and Tyseley. In 2018, the locomotive returned to operational condition thanks to the hard work and dedication of The Class 50 Alliance and its volunteers. It subsequently received its superb BR Large Logo Blue livery, recreating its appearance towards the end of its British Rail career. Today, ‘Glorious’ remains a firm favourite among diesel enthusiasts and continues to demonstrate why the Class 50s are so well loved. 🔧 Locomotive Details: Number: 50033 Name: Glorious Class: British Rail Class 50 Built: 1968 Manufacturer: English Electric, Vulcan Foundry Wheel Arrangement: Co-Co Power Type: Diesel-Electric Livery: BR Large Logo Blue Custodian: The Class 50 Alliance The Severn Valley Railway’s Autumn Diesel Bash was a fantastic event, offering plenty of diesel action, wonderful locations and, of course, the unmistakable sound of English Electric traction echoing through the valley.
