Part 3 - Why Does the Church Exist? What Jesus Actually Commanded | Karen Stuckey

WHY DOES THE CHURCH EXIST? Is the purpose of the Church simply to hold services, attract people and run programmes? Or has Jesus Christ given His Church a much greater mission? In this third teaching from our New Testament Church series, Ps Karen Stuckey from Church Gathering Online explores what the Bible actually teaches about the mission and purpose of the Church. Jesus commanded His followers to make disciples, baptise them and teach them to obey everything He commanded (Matthew 28:18–20). But the New Testament also teaches that the Church exists to glorify God, proclaim the gospel, build up believers, encourage fellowship and equip God's people for ministry. IN THIS TEACHING WE EXPLORE: ✅ Why the Church exists for God's glory ✅ What Jesus meant when He commanded us to make disciples ✅ Why the gospel must remain central ✅ The role of the Holy Spirit in the Church's mission ✅ Why pastors and leaders must equip believers ✅ The importance of biblical teaching, fellowship and spiritual maturity ✅ What this means for home churches and online gatherings ✅ How we can examine church health according to Scripture KEY SCRIPTURES 📖 Matthew 28:18–20 — The Great Commission 📖 Ephesians 3:20–21 — Glory to God in the Church 📖 1 Corinthians 15:1–4 — The Gospel 📖 Acts 1:8 — Empowered to Witness 📖 Ephesians 4:11–16 — Equipping the Saints 📖 Acts 2:42 — The Early Church 📖 1 Corinthians 14:26 — Building Up the Church 📖 Colossians 1:28 — Maturity in Christ FOR PASTORS, CHURCH LEADERS & HOME CHURCHES This series encourages us to examine our church practices in the light of Scripture. Our purpose is not to criticise particular churches or denominations, but to encourage biblical faithfulness, sound doctrine and genuine discipleship. Whether you are a pastor, elder, ministry leader, involved in a home church or simply wanting to understand the New Testament Church, we invite you to study God's Word with us. JOIN THE DISCUSSION 💬 If we examined our churches according to the New Testament, what might we need to change? Please share your thoughts respectfully and include Scripture where possible.
