How to remove the Key Barrel on a 2000 Peugeot 406.
Because the Wiper Stalk also had to be removed i continued on and removed the indicator stalk, instrument cluster, drivers airbag, steering wheel, and clock spring to complete the video. Hopefully this is of use to you if you need to change or work on any of these parts.
The 2000 406 is a pre multiplex D9, it may look similar to the rest of the 406s that continued to be built until 2004 however in late 2001 they changed to a multiplexed wiring system which brought with it a number of changes including the Com2000 which is a different design of stalks which incorporates the indicator and wipers in one unit, the Com2000 has a bad reputation for faults with the indicator stalk not locking in the canceled position and the indicator can inadvertently indicate left, the whole Com2000 unit must be replaced which requires the steering wheel to come off and that comes off differently than this design with a large spring used to hold the airbag module in place. The Com2000 unit also costs over £100 whereas on these pre multiplex cars if one of the stalks fails it can be pulled out fairly easily and another one can be purchased for under £20.
I know it would make a good video to repair a Com2000 unit, however i don't want to dissect my own car. But i will do one as soon as i get the chance.
