The Lamb Of Funk | Carter Arrington & Redtenbacher’s Funkestra | Studio Session

“The Lamb Of Funk” became one of the standout tracks from FUNKOPIA — but it started rather more simply. After a session at Masterlink Productions, Doug Harper, Carter Arrington and Stefan Redtenbacher kept playing. That spontaneous trio moment — drums, guitar and bass — planted the seed for a track that would eventually open the album. This film captures the next stage: Doug Harper, Carter Arrington, Simon Peter King, Stefan Redtenbacher and Jim Watson recording the rhythm-section version of what became “The Lamb Of Funk.” The finished album version then grew another set of muscles with a horn overdub from Horn House: Graeme Blevins on saxophones, Nichol Thomson on trombones and Tom Walsh on trumpet, recorded at Horn House Studio by Tom Walsh. Nichol and Stefan’s musical connection goes back to Berklee College of Music in 1995, with Nichol playing trombone on the very first Funkestra album, Boozing Wizards. Three decades later, Horn House appears across several tracks on FUNKOPIA, including “The Lamb Of Funk.” The completed track appears on FUNKOPIA, Redtenbacher’s Funkestra’s 30th-anniversary album.
