High in the Lombardy mountains near the Swiss border, Agra is a tiny mountain village with beautiful scenery, fascinating history and a wonderfully tranquil atmosphere. Join me as we wander through this charming corner of northern Italy, discovering the historic Chiesa di Sant’Eusebio, the Santuario di Santa Maria e San Giuseppe, the Monumento ai Caduti and the picturesque Parco Daini. With just around 400 permanent residents, Agra feels wonderfully peaceful. At around 650 metres above sea level, the village is surrounded by birch and chestnut forests and offers spectacular panoramic views towards Lake Maggiore and the surrounding landscape. Inside the churches, we discover beautiful craftsmanship, an intriguing pipe organ and ceiling, remarkable artwork including The Last Supper, and a wonderful historic bell tower. We also discover a little of Agra’s local traditions, including violino, a traditional cured goat’s leg, and mountain dishes made with chestnut polenta.
