What happens when love crosses racial lines in a society still burdened by generational prejudice? “The Colour of Race” explores this tension through the emotional journey of Jairam and Michelle, two young adults from different ethnic backgrounds who fall in love — and set off a storm in their families. Sunita and Patsy, their mothers, are vehemently against the relationship, consumed by bitterness and long-standing racial bias. What follows is an emotional and often chaotic clash filled with hate, denial, and unexpected moments of humor. Meanwhile, Jairam's father, Sunil, stands as a voice of reason and acceptance, offering a glimmer of hope in the midst of turmoil. Originally written as a short stage play in 2012 and later developed into a full-length production, The Colour of Race tackles the real issues of racism, love, family loyalty, and the price of change. It’s a thought-provoking narrative that mirrors the ongoing conversations in Guyana and beyond about race, identity, and generational healing. 🎬 Theme: Promoting Ethnic Respect and Unity 📝 Writer/Director: Sonia Yarde #TheColourOfRace #SoniaYarde #ERCFilmCompetition #GuyanaFilm #UnityInDiversity
