I told you that joke was a spoiler! Anyway, back to the story. Updike saw the fear in the three’s eyes as they ran up to Tabi, and asked what happened to them. They explain as fast as they could, and he knew what to do. He’s encountered these types of people before, one being an infamous killer who lured people in and killed them if they didn’t fit her criteria, but that’s another story for another day. He know how to deal with them: Don’t give them the satisfaction of winning. He wouldn’t stop until they shut up and leave, not even if they try and make him leave.
