Fear of God Week 7: FOMO | 2 Corinthians 6:14–7:1 What if the real fear of missing out isn’t about missing what everyone else is doing, but missing what God has promised because we refuse to let go of what is pulling us away from Him? In Week 7 of The Garden Life Church’s Fear of God sermon series, we explore FOMO through 2 Corinthians 6:14–7:1 and Paul’s instruction to believers to examine their relationships, agreements, habits, and attachments. Even after coming to faith in Jesus Christ, it is possible to remain connected to people, environments, and patterns from our old lives. Paul challenges believers to make a clear decision about who they are, who they follow, and what they allow themselves to be yoked to. In this message, we unpack three important instructions: Unyoke yourself. Come out from among them. Cleanse yourself. Being unequally yoked is about more than relationships. It is about anything or anyone pulling you in the opposite direction of God. Through the work of the Holy Spirit, believers are called to continually renew their minds, cleanse their lives, and move toward holiness. Jesus saves us, but our daily walk requires surrender, obedience, and the willingness to allow God to transform our appetites, thinking, relationships, and behavior. The fear of God should produce a life that is continually separating unto Him. So what are you connected to that God may be calling you to release? What relationship, habit, agreement, environment, or compromise is keeping you tethered to something you have already been called out of? FOMO leads us further from God, while the fear of God draws us closer to Him. Don’t fear missing what the world has to offer. Fear missing the promise.
