The US Department of Defense and Trump have ordered that the US military in the Middle East remain at its current level of readiness until the end of the year. US officials are warning that the current "neither war nor peace" stance cannot continue sustainably and that the US must determine its ultimate endgame. Additionally, Trump stated that Iran is still in direct contact with the US and has a desire to reach an agreement.
