Big Team Science Conference talk:
Trends in replications in Environmental psychology: a bibliometric and meta-analysis
Presenter(s): Nidhi, Aishwarya Iyer, Hakile Resulbegoviq, Prerna Radhakrishna, Vivek Singh, Alphonsa Jose K
Replications are a test of empirical robustness, allowing researchers to evaluate the generalizability and cross cultural validity of essential constructs in the field. For an interdisciplinary field such as environmental psychology, such a temperature check is deeply necessary but missing. The current study addresses the following research questions through a pre-registered bibliometric and meta-analysis: a) What are the growth trends in replication studies in environmental psychology?, b) Who are the key contributors and collaborators of replications in environmental psychology?, c) Which theories or effects are highly replicated, and d) What are some null or contested findings in the field? Studies published in English between 2010-2026 in prominent environmental psychology peer-reviewed journals, preprint servers and solicitations through authors’ networks will be included. Meta-analysis will be conducted to compare mean effect sizes of original and replication studies to highlight the percentage of successful replications. A narrative review will compare study and author characteristics to indicate common trends in methodologies and designs used in replications in the field. Finally, bibliometric analyses will report publication trajectory, citation impact, and top contributing authors and collaborative networks. Results from this study will not only identify robustness of findings but also indicate their linguistic, geographic and cultural representativeness to guide future research. As part of the talk, the authors will discuss findings from the study and research decisions regarding nomenclature of replication studies to aid future evidence synthesis work on replications.
