It has a Large Day Use Picnic Area, specifically designed for Large Groups, with 11 Picnic Tables strewn around the perimeter of the Lake and enough Parking for approximately 50 Vehicles. When the Fahrenheit ticks up in the height of Summer it is an oasis to cool off! Please note that Dogs are NOT Allowed due to health reasons. Adjacent to the Large Day Use Picnic Area is Scout Lake Campground. It has Campsites #1 - #9, and #4 is separated into #4A & #4B (for mysterious unknown reasons) so there are 10 Campsites in Total. Scout Lake Campground is a Group Campground by design, what I often refer to as "Base Camp" or "Mosh Pit" style Camping with lots of room for Parking and pretty basic Campsite Layouts suitable for Large Groups. It has mostly Double and Triple Capacity Sites! So if you have a Large Group getting together and need a Base Camp for the Area to explore greater Deschutes National Forest, this is a great option. I would also add that if you are a Single Party/Family, I would personally recommend steering clear of Scout Lake Campground and instead Camp at one of the three Campgrounds @ Suttle Lake - South Shore, Blue Bay, or Link Creek. Those Campgrounds have Campsites particularly designed for a Single Party/Family, and many of the Campsites are Shoreline of Suttle Lake! It has 3 Developed Campgrounds situated around the Shoreline - Link Creek, South Shore, & Blue Bay. South Shore Campground & Blue Bay Campground have a typical Peak Summer Season schedule, Reservable @ Recreation.gov, and are closed the remainder of the year. Link Creek has a Year Round schedule, most noteworthy including 3 Yurts bookable in Winter, see Recreation.gov for further details! There is a very high quality Shoreline Loop Hike that completely circumnavigates Suttle Lake and walks through the edge of the 3 Campgrounds, it is approximately 3.6 Miles, 100 - 200 FT Net Elevation Gain, so mostly flat with some minor machinations in the Trail. Due to the relatively low Elevation (3400 - 3500 FT) of the Lake, this area is often accessible in Late Winter to Early Spring, typically in the March/April window. I like to combine this Hike with Metolius River and Whychus Creek Areas as what I have dubbed the "Spring Triad" of World Class Hiking Trails in the Sisters to Santiam Pass Area, no reason to wait til' Summer to get your Hike on! I also recommend as a Side Feature of this Shoreline Loop Hike scoping out the best individual Campsites of the three Campgrounds as you Hike along the Trail, of course depending on the time of year Hiking.
