Painting in public still pushes me out of my comfort zone — especially when the weather, the crowds, and my own nerves all seem to be working against me! 🎨🌊 In this PaintCamp adventure, I’m painting at Halibut Point State Park in Rockport, Massachusetts, on a gray, stormy day along the coast. After carrying my gear down to the water’s edge, I had plenty of reasons to pack up before I even started. A storm was moving in, people were watching, and I had already completed one painting earlier that morning. But I stayed. Using my four-step painting process, I worked through the discomfort and painted the rocky shoreline, muted sky, seafoam water, crashing waves, and even a few lobster buoys. In this video: • Painting through anxiety in public • Simplifying rocks, water, and sky • Using a red filter to check values • Working with a limited plein air setup • Using a silicone scraper for edges and rock shapes • Painting on an overcast day • Saving the brightest waves and highlights for the end This painting took about an hour and a half, and even though I wasn’t sure about it at first, I ended up pretty happy with where it went. Sometimes the best thing you can do is stay, set up the easel, and paint anyway. 🌲 For more painting, camp, and a bit of nostalgia, make sure to like and subscribe! Thanks for watching, and I’ll see you on the next PaintCamp adventure.
