Who wrote the BEST lyrics in early deathcore? 🎤 We're going back to the MySpace era of deathcore (2003–2008), when some of the genre's most influential early material was being created by musicians who were still teenagers. But who was actually the best lyricist? Not the best vocalist. Not the heaviest band. Not who had the best breakdowns. We're judging the actual writing. In this video, we revisit the early releases of eight deathcore bands, examining their lyrical creativity, imagery, storytelling, and substance. *BANDS & RELEASES FEATURED:* ► Animosity — Shut It Down (2003) ► Bring Me the Horizon — This Is What the Edge of Your Seat Was Made For (2004) ► Job for a Cowboy — Doom (2005) ► Elysia — Masochist (2006) ► Born of Osiris — The New Reign (2007) ► Attila — Fallacy (2007) ► Thy Art Is Murder — Infinite Death (2008) ► Chelsea Grin — Chelsea Grin EP (2008) Each band's lyrics are evaluated across five categories: • Originality • Imagery • Concept & Storytelling • Writing & Cohesion • Memorability Each category is worth 10 points, for a total possible score of 50. We're also taking a bonus look at early Suicide Silence and Emmure! *A NOTE ON THE RANKINGS:* These rankings are subjective and focus on early writing from the musicians' teenage years, particularly around age 17. Exact ages, recording dates, and individual songwriting credits vary. Where credits are shared or incomplete, the analysis evaluates the band's recorded lyrics rather than attributing every word exclusively to its vocalist. Some of these lyrics were surprisingly thought-provoking. Others relied heavily on shock value. But which ones actually hold up today? 💬 *WHO WOULD YOU RANK #1?* Let me know your rankings in the comments. Did I get something completely wrong? Is there a band I overlooked? I'd love to hear your thoughts! --- *ABOUT OLIVER GOT IT* Welcome to Oliver Got It — a channel for music deep dives across genres, reactions, commentary, gaming, creative projects, and everything in between.
