Author and accidental guitar collector John Stubbings approached Richard Hoover of The Santa Cruz Guitar Company in 1999 with a request to make as exact a homage to an original 14-fret Gibson Nick Lucas model as he could – including spectacular maple back and sides and Gibson style fretboard inlays- there’s even a headstock Fleur de Lys. A year later this beautiful instrument was ready. This is one of the best Nick Lucas style guitars we have played – nearly 25 years old and in excellent condition bar some light finish checking and honest playing wear – this is a full voiced instrument that excels as a finger style guitar as well as sitting beautifully in the mix as a strummer and flat picker. The 25.75″ scale length gives this small body instrument surprising power and depth and the neck is a comfortable C-carve with a 1.75″ nut width. A very good looking, versatile guitar and a true one-off!
