Tracking the Gold | Quesnel River Part 2 - Quesnel Panning Reserve The search continues on the Quesnel River! In Part 1, I tracked the gold along an old bank and eventually found a promising pay streak. In this episode, I pick up right where I left off and start expanding the search to see just how far the gold can be followed. Starting from the current pay streak, I head out to explore the island and begin testing different locations upstream. Rather than simply looking for gold, I'm trying to understand where the gold is travelling, where it's concentrating, and how the different layers of the river compare. Eventually, the exploration turns into a roughly 1 km hike back upstream, where I test completely different ground and compare the results against the pay streak I've already been digging. Does the gold improve upstream? Does the island hold better material? Or is the pay streak I've already found still the place to be? That's what prospecting is all about — test the ground, follow the clues, and let the gold tell you where to go next. This episode is part of my ongoing exploration of the Quesnel Panning Reserve in British Columbia, where I've been testing old river gravels, clay layers, benches, islands and different sections of the Quesnel and Fraser River systems. There is a huge difference between finding a few flakes of gold and actually tracking down where that gold is concentrating. Thanks for following along on the adventure and supporting The Gold Sniffer!
