This time I'm turning a lidded box or bowl, with a finial lid, using a very simple and forgiving design. I messed up twice and still managed to end up with a nice looking piece, so watch and learn from my mistakes. I'm turning sapele and African blackwood in this one and I've concluded that sapele is NO fun to turn, even though it looks pretty nice when finished. Thank you to everyone who came up and said hi to me at the AAW Symposium last weekend! I had an awesome time and I hope all of you did as well! If you've never been to one, I highly recommend them! 00:00 Introduction 00:07 Prep the blank 03:17 Shape & Hollow the Bowl 08:40 Cut Recess for Lid 10:08 Complete Bowl 14:30 Shape & Fit Lid 22:18 Prep Lid for Finial 24:10 Prep Finial 25:30 Attach & Shape Finial 28:21 Blend Lid to Box 29:45 Touch up Finial 31:05 Finish Bottom of Box 37:10 I Do Something Dumb 38:20 Final Clean-up 41:50 Closing Thoughts Let me know what you think in the comments or PLEASE ask me a question! Do not attempt projects or techniques that are beyond your skill level or your comfort level! Serious accidents can happen in an instant and bandaging wounds or sitting in an emergency room is much less fun than woodturning. You are always responsible for your own safety.
