Today we take you inside an abandoned monastery; built in 1466, it was considerably enlarged around 1626. It is very extensive with large rooms, elegant windows and an interesting cloister full of frescoes representing the life of San Francesco; it also has medallions of Saints and Blesseds of the order of the Zoccolanti Friars of which it was property until the unification of Italy and coats of arms of noble families. In 1626 the convent, until then of the order of the Observant Fathers, was entrusted to the order of the Reformed Minor Fathers and during the same century it became one of the most important convent complexes of the latter religious order. However, it was during the 1800s that its importance waned, so much so that in 1810 it was even suppressed; during the same century it was restored and entrusted to the Zoccolanti Fathers, then subsequently suppressed again in coincidence with the unification of Italy. It was then that the municipality transformed the convent into a hospice for the elderly and subsequently, during the 1900 century, into a residential building until about 1960. In 1989, after numerous collapses, it was subjected to consolidation works, unfortunately only partial and never completed by the municipality that still owns it. The building is rather bare; the presence of two funeral carriages and statues and religious ornaments in the sacristy should be noted. Currently the building, severely tested also by the earthquakes of 1997 and 2016, is seriously in danger of collapse.
