Back when Guitar instrumentals sounded like music...(TAB)

Download Tabs:   / threekingsofblues   The footage is of the Chicago bluesman Earl Hooker, performing "Earl's Boogie" in 1970. I love the simplicity of this instrumental - tasty, melodic phrasing coupled with incredible groove. No fancy gear, no modellers, just straight into the amp. Earl is predominantly playing the humble Am pentatonic here, and that's really all he needs. This made me think of the early guitar instrumentals of the 60's and 70's and how composition and melody driven they were, rather than focusing primarily on virtuosity and technical skill. I do wish he saved his tooth enamel in the latter part of the video (the tone difference in tooth and pick is quite interesting though).
