The Millennia-Old Pavement: A Walk Through History One of the most fascinating features of Beijing Road is the "Millennium Ancient Road" (千年古道) archaeological exhibit. Beneath glass panels embedded in the pedestrian walkway, visitors can observe five distinct layers of road surfaces dating from the Southern Han Dynasty (10th century) to the Republic of China era (early 20th century) . This open-air "museum underfoot" reveals brick-paved paths, drainage channels, and the literal foundation layers of Guangzhou's urban evolution. Adjacent to the road, the Guangzhou Archaeological Site Museum of the Nanyue Kingdom (located inside the Guangbai Department Store) displays additional excavated ruins, including remnants of the Gongbei Tower (Archway Tower) and ancient city gates. Commercial & Cultural Vibe Today, Beijing Road is a bustling pedestrian-only shopping street that seamlessly blends history with contemporary commerce.
