TOPIC: BIBLICAL IMPORTANCE OF THE OLIVE TREE Bible Texts: Leviticus 24:1–4; Romans 11:17–24 The Olive Tree occupies a significant place in biblical history, worship and God's redemptive plan for humanity. Beyond its physical and economic benefits, God used the olive tree and its oil to communicate profound spiritual truths. THREE MAJOR BIBLICAL SIGNIFICANCES: Oil for Anointing: Olive oil was a principal ingredient in the sacred anointing oil used to consecrate priests and holy objects for God's service (Exodus 30:22–30). Worship and Illumination: Pure olive oil fuelled the lamps in the Tabernacle, providing light continually before the Lord (Leviticus 24:1–4). God's Redemptive Plan: Apostle Paul used the imagery of a cultivated olive tree and grafted branches to explain how believing Gentiles share in God's covenant blessings through faith, while warning against pride and unbelief (Romans 11:17–24). SPIRITUAL LESSON: As believers, our Green Life in Christ must reflect these divine purposes. We are called to live consecrated lives, shine as lights in a dark world, and remain firmly rooted in Christ through faith. Remember, a branch cannot boast against the root that sustains it!
