How did a riverside village of wild-olive orchards become a city of eleven million? Watch 490 years of Bangkok unfold in 6 minutes, from a jungle bend of the Chao Phraya River in 1538 to the skyscrapers and Skytrain of 2026.
One unbroken flight over a 3D recreation of Bangkok, built on real map data. The river, every canal, street and building footprint sit in their true positions, and one year clock drives every change: the canal that moved a river, the fall of Ayutthaya, Taksin’s Thonburi, Rama I’s walled island city of temples and floating houses, the opening of Siam, the first bridge across the Chao Phraya, the post-war boom, the 1997 crash and the rise of Krung Thep Maha Nakhon.

ℹ️ ABOUT THIS RECREATION
Streets, canals, the river and building footprints come from OpenStreetMap. Landmarks are hand-modelled from historical sources. Districts grow outward from their historical cores. Where records are thin, building ages and population figures before the first censuses are estimates (shown with “≈”). Ordinary buildings are simplified, and street traffic is not shown. “Eleven million” refers to the metropolitan area; the city proper has about nine million residents.
