Video tutorial on how to knit the Fern Lace stitch. This stitch provides a beautiful fabric with pretty little fern leaves. The lace fabric will need blocking to flatten it out once done. The stitch is knit on a multiple of 29 stitches + 1 and is a 10-row repeat. Level: Advanced beginner or intermediate
[Abbreviations: K=knit; P=purl; SK2P=slip 1 stitch, knit 2 stitches together, then pass the slipped stitch over; st=stitch; YO=yarn over].
Cast on a multiple of 29 stitches + 1 (eg, 59, 88, 117, etc).
Row 1 & all odd rows (wrong side): P1,*P13, K2, P14. Repeat from * to the end of the row.
Row 2 (right side): *K1, SK2P, K9, YO, K1, YO, P2, YO, K1, YO, K9, SK2P. Repeat from * to the last stitch, then K1.
Row 4: *K1, SK2P, K8, (YO, K1) x 2, P2, (K1, YO) x 2, K8, SK2P. Repeat from * to the last stitch, then K1.
Row 6: *K1, SK2P, K7, YO, K1, YO, K2, P2, K2, YO, K1, YO, K7, SK2P. Repeat from * to the last stitch, then K1.
Row 8: *K1, SK2P, K6, YO, K1, YO, K3, P2, K3, YO, K1, YO, K6, SK2P. Repeat from * to the last stitch, then K1.
Row 10: *K1, SK2P, K5, YO, K1, YO, K4, P2, K4, YO, K1, YO, K5, SK2P. Repeat from * to the last stitch, then K1.
Repeats Rows 1-10 for the pattern. When ready to bind off, after the last 10-row repeat, do another Row 1 and then do a regular bind off (that way, you are binding off when facing the right side of the work).
