Gabby Thomas is BACK! The Olympic 200m champion won ATHLOS London 2026 in 22.13 seconds after battling back from an Achilles injury.
But just five days earlier, she ran FASTER than her Olympic gold medal time and still lost to Melissa Jefferson-Wooden!
After an Achilles problem kept Gabby Thomas out of the 2025 World Championships, the three-time Paris Olympic gold medalist returned in 2026 with a point to prove. She won the Kip Keino Classic 200m in 21.89 and set a 100m personal best of 10.95 in Botswana, showing speed across both sprints.
Her biggest test came at the World Athletics Ultimate Championship in Budapest. Thomas won her semifinal in 21.88, beating Melissa Jefferson-Wooden, but the final flipped the script. Jefferson-Wooden clocked a world-leading 21.47. Thomas ran 21.77, quicker than the 21.83 that earned her Paris Olympic gold, yet finished second.
Five days later, Thomas closed her season by winning ATHLOS London in 22.13. Kayla White followed in 22.40, with Anavia Battle third in 22.43.
In this Runner Report breakdown, we examine her comeback, the difference between a winning performance and the fastest performance, and what the results mean for the women's 200m heading into 2027. Is Gabby Thomas back at the top, or must she beat Jefferson-Wooden to reclaim the crown?
