The TCM Original “Monster Influence” visits a true icon in the field of special make-up effects: Rick Baker.
The winner of the Academy Award for Best Makeup a record seven times from a record eleven nominations, beginning with his win in the first year of the category's existence, for the 1981 horror comedy An American Werewolf in London, Baker’s work can be seen in films as varied as Harry and the Hendersons (1987), Coming to America (1988), Ed Wood (1994), and Men in Black, (1997).
Here he shares the inspiration learned from the work of make-up artist pioneer Jack Pierce and actor Boris Karloff in Frankenstein (1931).
Produced by Rob Hampton.
