Mental health during pregnancy with diabetes Pregnancy is a life-changing event. Pregnancy is full of happy expectations, but it can also be challenging. You might not be able to do the things you used to do. Expecting a child can also change family dynamics, finances, housing and your identity. As a woman with diabetes, you also have an extra ‘ job’ to take care of diabetes. This is a big job. The hormonal changes during pregnancy affect insulin requirements and it’s difficult to keep blood glucose levels within the target range, often resulting in a higher number of episodes with too low glucose values so called “hypoglycaemia” or periods with too high blood glucose values.
