Welcome to my first time watching as I react to The Shining (1980). Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson), an aspiring writer and recovering alcoholic, takes a job as the off-season caretaker of the isolated Overlook Hotel in the Colorado Rockies. He moves in for the winter with his wife, Wendy (Shelley Duvall), and their young son, Danny (Danny Lloyd). Danny possesses a telepathic ability known as "the shining," which allows him to see horrific visions of the hotel's gruesome past. The hotel’s head chef, Dick Hallorann (Scatman Crothers), recognizes Danny's gift and warns him to stay away from certain parts of the building, especially Room 237. As heavy snowstorms trap the family inside, the hotel's supernatural forces begin to manipulate Jack’s deteriorating sanity. Succumbing to cabin fever and sinister apparitions, Jack spirals into homicidal madness, turning against his own family in a desperate struggle for survival.
