This collection of videos showcases various Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway (ATSF) mail and express trains operating over the La Mesa Model Railroad Club's HO-scale layout at the San Diego Model Railroad Museum.
While these consists are not intended to be exact, car-for-car reproductions of the northern sections of Santa Fe's famed mail and express trains Nos. 7 and 8, they are representative of the equipment, character, and operational practices associated with these trains during the period modeled. The consists have been assembled to provide historically plausible operations while accommodating the practical requirements of the club's operating sessions and the enjoyment of museum visitors.
My primary modeling interest centers on the years **1958 through 1965**, with the trains featured in these videos representing operations spanning approximately **1960 through 1966**.
Considerable attention has been devoted to selecting appropriate locomotives and rolling stock, including baggage, railway post office, express, and other head-end equipment characteristic of Santa Fe's mail and express operations during the final years of their prominence.
Although certain liberties have been taken with individual car assignments and train makeup, the overall objective remains the same: to capture the appearance, diversity, and operational character of Santa Fe's mail and express service during this fascinating transitional period in American railroad history.
These videos reflect my continuing interest in historical research, prototype accuracy, and the preservation of a distinctive chapter of Santa Fe passenger and head-end operations through HO-scale modeling.
